What is Digital Residency?
Digital Residency is an official status granted by the Zanzibar Digital Free Zone that allows individuals to legally operate businesses, incorporate companies, and access financial services within the free zone - all without physically relocating to Zanzibar.
As a digital resident, you receive a Digital Resident Certificate that serves as proof of your status and enables you to:
- ✓ Incorporate and own companies in the free zone
- ✓ Open business bank accounts with partner institutions
- ✓ Enter into legally binding contracts under Zanzibar law
- ✓ Join or form cooperatives with other digital residents
- ✓ Access the ZDFZ management portal for all business operations
💡 Important Note
Digital Residency does not grant:
- Physical residency rights in Zanzibar or Tanzania
- Work permits for employment in Tanzania
- Citizenship or path to citizenship
- Visa-free travel to Tanzania
It is a business-focused status for operating companies within the digital free zone.
